Juzo Launches Cooling Compression Wrap

Greg Biddulph, Juzo Product Manager

When it comes to medical compression garments, Juzo is known for offering “cool” options. Our new compression wrap is literally and figuratively cool. Product Manager Greg Biddulph explains more about the innovative design of the Cooling Wrap and its benefits to patients.

What are the key benefits of wearing a compression wrap versus a garment?
Compression wraps provide a higher level of working pressure, making them effective for patients with advanced compression needs. They are especially beneficial for wound care patients with venous stasis ulcers, venous insufficiency with edema and lymphedema. Many patients also prefer wraps because they are easier to apply than high-compression stockings.

Why did Juzo add a cooling element to the Juzo Wrap?
We listened to patients. Many reported that wraps and supports made from neoprene-type materials feel hot, especially in warmer climates or summer months. While open-cell foams helped somewhat, they did not fully address heat and moisture buildup. Juzo developed the multi-layer cooling structure to solve this issue.

How does the Juzo Cooling Wrap work to cool skin?
The wrap is designed to keep you cooler from the inside out. It features a blue Brrr® fabric lining that feels cool to the touch and provides excellent moisture-wicking. Moisture passes through to the open-cell, perforated foam layer, which allows heat and sweat to escape. The reflective gray outer layer then promotes evaporation for lasting comfort.

What other key features does it include?
The Cooling Wrap integrates innovations from our
Reversa Compression Wrap, including:

·       Notches that prevent gapping

·       Easy-pull tabs for quick strap adjustments

·       Removable fasteners for easier care

All of this is combined with strong containment and cooling performance.

Has the Juzo Cooling Wrap been independently tested?
Yes. Both the Reversa Wrap and the Cooling Wrap were tested at the Textile Protection and Comfort Center at NC State University. Last year, we made changes to our Reversa wrap to improve the wearing comfort and management of moisture. Our Cooling Wrap takes this to a whole new level.

Laboratory testing shows the Cooling Wrap is 2.5 times cooler to the touch than the Reversa Wrap. It is also notably thinner and lighter, less insulative, provides less thermal resistance and is better at wicking and releasing moisture than the improved Reversa Wrap.

Who should wear the Juzo Cooling Wrap?
It is designed for patients who need firm containment to manage wounds, venous disease or lymphedema—especially those concerned about comfort in warm conditions. It is also ideal for those who want to keep the skin cooler and dryer under the wrap.

Does insurance cover compression wraps?
Coverage depends on the insurance plan. Many policies, including Medicare, cover medical compression wraps when medically necessary. Patients should ask their provider about coverage under the new Medicare compression lymphedema benefit category.

What do people think about it?
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Clinicians and patients alike appreciate the cooling performance, especially during the hot summer months, where heat discomfort is often a barrier to compliance. Clinical feedback has also seen the value of keeping the skin dryer under the wrap to promote a better healing environment.

Are new Juzo products on the horizon?
While we can’t share details yet, Juzo is always working to enhance our products and explore new designs that improve comfort and mobility for patients requiring medical compression.
