March 6 marks World Lymphedema Day, an advocate-driven celebration established in 2016 thanks to the efforts of the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN). Juzo is a strong proponent of both LE&RN and the celebratory day that honors and advocates for those living with lymphedema.
World Lymphedema Day also marks an occasion to raise awareness of the condition on a global scale. This year, LE&RN is taking World Lymphedema Day to the “virtual main stage” with a celebration sponsored by Juzo that includes a star-studded cast.
Actress and LE&RN spokesperson Kathy Bates hosts the online event featuring the debut performance of the one-act play Let's Talk Lymphedema by Brian Daniels, based on the book Let's Talk Lymphedema by Professor Peter Mortimer and Gemma Levine. Actor and LE&RN Honorary Board Member Steve Guttenberg will perform a key role.
LE&RN President and CEO William Repicci believes in the power of theater to bring the global lymphedema community together for the worthy cause.
“Having spent a good deal of my life as a theatrical producer, I was inspired by how the arts offer a rich medium where we are asked to walk in the shoes of others,” William said. “In his new play, Brian Daniels flings open the door of the life-changing disease of lymphedema that society has conspired to ignore.”
In addition to the play, the celebration will include celebrity toasts, musical interludes and a roundtable discussion with the authors of Let’s Talk Lymphedema and Juzo President Annerose Zorn-West.
“Juzo is proud to serve as the main sponsor of the Virtual Global Celebration. We’ve partnered with LE&RN on many initiatives over the years, and this event is a terrific way to celebrate the lymphedema community,” Annerose said. “It’s an incredible honor to help showcase this important work on a global stage and fitting to do so on World Lymphedema Day.”
Event details and tickets are available at curelymph.org. You can select one of four viewing times for March 6: 2, 7 or 10 p.m., or 2 a.m., March 7. All times are EST-USA.
