In early April the Wall Street Journal published a story regarding DVT and the current state of this deadly disease. Through the increasing efforts from the Surgeon General and other medical organizations, DVT public awareness and institutional policy change has been developed to decrease preventable deaths.

Key take aways from the story.

·Clots kill some 200,000 patients in the US each year

·Compression stockings and pharmaceuticals are key for DVT prevention

·Medicare has instituted a never event policy that with out hospitals increasing patient screening or the examining risk factors they will not be reimbursed.
